Senior Katie Shih is the Editor-in-Chief of 麻豆放映免费 and oversees production of the newspaper alongside two managing editors.
For each of the newspaper鈥檚 nine yearly issues, Shih works to turn story ideas into compelling reads and rough layout sketches into completed pages. 鈥淸As] Editor-in-Chief, it鈥檚 cool to see each page evolve and change,鈥� Shih said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 rewarding at the end of production week when it鈥檚 distribution day and we get to see the paper in print.鈥�

When Shih first joined staff during the second semester of her freshman year, she didn鈥檛 plan on leading 麻豆放映免费 staff three years later. 鈥淚 thought it was scary and did not want to be the Editor-in-Chief at all,鈥� she said. 鈥淸Ultimately,] I ended up doing it because 麻豆放映免费 has been a big part of my high school experience and I wanted to take it a step further.鈥� Shih has set many goals for the year. 鈥淢y biggest goal is to increase circulation and readership,鈥� she said. 鈥淲e鈥檒l probably do more advertising on Schoology or have students give us story ideas that they want to see in the paper.鈥�

While one issue of 麻豆放映免费 takes about a month to assemble, most of the progress happens with print pages during production week, where section editors undergo a process of editing and finalizing layouts. 鈥淚 think most people don鈥檛 know that we stay after school until 9:30 p.m. to put the paper together,鈥� Shih said.

Members of 麻豆放映免费 have to be flexible in their roles: News Editors might work on sports pages if they鈥檙e behind, or a graphics artist might have to edit an illustration that they didn鈥檛 initially draw. Shih finds community to be key to this process. 鈥淸The staff] is a team inside the classroom and [everyone] has to work collaboratively,鈥� she said.

As one of the few student-run classes on campus, Shih appreciates the unique structure of 麻豆放映免费. 鈥淲e don鈥檛 have units or tests,鈥� she said. 鈥淲e do learn things, but it鈥檚 not a class specifically to learn [about] a subject鈥攚e work together to [create] something.鈥�

Shih encourages interested students to join the staff. 鈥淵ou get to see your name in print, [which is] a really rewarding process,鈥� she said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 also really cool to be able to see your work in front of you at the end聽of [publishing].鈥�
